Delhi Saheli Smart Card: In 2019, the then Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi introduced free bus travel for women. This continues, but the format has changed. Previously, a pink slip was required for free travel. Now, the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi has launched the Saheli Smart Card, which will replace the old paper-based pink ticket system.

This card will provide lifetime free travel. The Saheli Smart Card will also contain the passenger's name and photo, preventing misuse. Now, women and transgender passengers will be able to travel easily on buses, avoiding the hassle of long lines or old tickets. This initiative is a major step by the Delhi government to better utilize technology in public transport.

Who can benefit from the Saheli Smart Card?

The new Saheli Smart Card launched by the Delhi government is exclusively for women and transgender individuals living in Delhi. This card is available only to those aged 12 years and above. This card provides free travel on DTC and cluster buses. Additionally, passengers can recharge the card and use it for the Delhi Metro or other payment-based transport services.

Passengers with the card simply tap the Automatic Fare Collection Machine (AFCS) during their bus journey, which will record their travel information in a digital system. With this card, women will no longer need to purchase separate tickets daily.

How to apply for the card?

If a woman wishes to apply for a Saheli Smart Card, the application process is completely online. To apply, visit the Delhi Transport Department (DTC) website and enter your name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, address, and mobile number in the 'Saheli Smart Card Registration' section.

In addition, you will need to upload a passport-sized photo and other relevant documents, such as your Aadhaar card, voter ID card, ration card, or birth certificate. After submitting your application, the card will be issued after KYC verification. Once the card is activated, women will be able to travel comfortably on the bus by simply tapping on the card.
