Storm to hit Andhra coast on October 28; Pressure in Bay of Bengal, alert of heavy rain in these states

Weather Update: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of rain and changing weather in some states of the country. The low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast as a severe cyclonic storm on October 28.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of rain and changing weather in some states of the country. According to the Meteorological Department, the low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal may intensify into a deep depression, then a cyclone and finally a severe cyclonic storm. This pressure area may move approximately west-northwest.

According to a bulletin from the Chennai-based Regional Meteorological Centre, this pressure area may turn into a deep depression by October 26. This system will become a cyclonic storm over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of 27 October.

Possible landfall on Andhra coast

According to the Meteorological Department, it is likely to turn into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28. The storm is likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam on the evening or night of October 28. During this period, the speed of strong wind can reach 90-100 km/h, while with gusts this speed can go up to 110 km/h.

Heavy rain alert in Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain and stormy weather in Tamil Nadu and Andhra coast. Due to this, heavy rains may occur in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Vilupuram districts of Tamil Nadu. During this period, there is also a possibility of lightning and thunder. Ooty (Tirunelveli) has recorded the highest rainfall of 14 cm in the last 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning of heavy rain in Jharkhand for October 29 and 30, for which a yellow alert has been issued. These affected districts include Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan, East Singbhum, West Singbhum, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Godda and Singhbhum.

Due to the low pressure area, wind speed reaching 35 to 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely along Tamil Nadu coast, southern Andhra Pradesh coast, Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea between October 25 and 29, 2025. The Coast Guard has contacted sailors and fishermen present at sea and appealed to them to return to the nearest port as soon as possible.

Condition of North and Central India

There is a possibility of heavy rain over South and East India due to active pressure systems in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. There is no possibility of rain in Bihar on 26th October. However, light to moderate rain is likely between October 29–31.

Delhi-NCR may experience light drizzle or showers on October 27 and 28. Air pollution has increased in Delhi-NCR after Diwali. There is no major rainfall system active over Uttar Pradesh on October 26, the weather will be mainly clear or partly cloudy.
