Key member of terrorist module arrested with two IEDs and a pistol from Amritsar

As per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, a major breakthrough has been achieved amid the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a safe state. State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Amritsar has arrested a member of a terrorist organization. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav informed on Saturday that the police have recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing about 2.5 kg from him. These are filled with high grade RDX. Timers have been set for the explosion. Apart from this, a sophisticated 30 bore pistol and ammunition has also been recovered from him.

The accused had a criminal history

The arrested accused has been identified as Manpreet Singh alias ​​Locust, resident of Kotla Tarkhana village, Amritsar. The arrested accused has a criminal history and has been previously involved in two criminal cases registered at Sadar Batala and Kalanaur police stations. After spending almost one and a half years in Gurdaspur and Amritsar jails, he was released in February 2025. After this he resumed his criminal activities.

Getting instructions from the mastermind

DGP Gaurav Yadav says that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was working on the instructions of his handlers based in Armenia, United Kingdom (UK) and Germany. They are further receiving instructions from a Pakistan-based mastermind of a banned terrorist organization. He said further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward links in this case to dismantle the entire network.

IEDs were also recovered

Sharing operational details, AIG SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann informed that acting immediately on a specific intelligence, the team of SSOC Amritsar arrested the suspect Manpreet Singh alias ​​Tiddi. A 30 bore pistol along with ammunition was recovered from his possession. Following his disclosure, two IEDs packed in metal containers filled with high-quality RDX and fitted with a timer to explode were also recovered from the area of ​​Kotla Tarkhana village, he said.
