New Delhi: In today’s digital age, mobiles and laptops have become an integral part of our lives. From work to entertainment, everything now depends on screens. But do you know that using these devices for a long time can have a serious impact on our health? Experts say that continuous screen time has a negative impact on the eyes, brain, spinal cord and mental health.
The most common problem is eye fatigue. Staring at screens for prolonged periods can cause dryness, irritation and pain in the eyes. This is called digital eye strain. Chronic exposure to blue light can damage the retina of the eyes, increasing the risk of vision loss.
Using mobile or working on laptop while bending for hours causes wrong body posture. It is common to have pain in the neck, shoulders and back. In the long run, this problem can cause diseases like cervical spondylitis. Doctors suggest changing your posture every 30-40 minutes and doing light stretching.
The blue light emitted from mobile screens inhibits the production of melatonin hormone, which regulates sleep. Watching mobile till late night increases the problem of insomnia, due to which one feels tired and irritable the next morning.
Constantly scrolling social media or playing games puts extra pressure on the brain. This can increase mental problems like restlessness, lack of concentration and stress in the person. Its effect is even more visible in teenagers.
Sitting and watching screens for long periods reduces physical activity, which increases the risk of diseases like obesity, blood pressure and diabetes.
