Heavy rain on Sunday night led to the abandonment of the final league match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup between India and Bangladesh at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. What happened in the match? Chasing a DLS-adjusted target of 126 in 27 overs India reached 57 without loss in 8.4 overs before another downpour stopped play. With no chance of completing the minimum number of overs umpires Lauren Agenbag and Sue Redfern after consulting match officials declared the game a washout. Smriti Mandhana was unbeaten on 34 off 27 balls while Amanjot Kaur opening in place of Pratika Rawal who injured her knee and ankle while fielding was on 13 when play was called off. Both teams earned one point each. India finished fourth in the table with seven points from three wins and one no-result while Bangladesh ended seventh with three points just above Pakistan who remained winless. Rain disrupted the match from the start delaying the toss by 30 minutes and causing two more interruptions of about two hours each reducing play time by nearly four and a half hours. Batting first Bangladesh struggled early and reached only 34/1 in the first nine overs of the Powerplay. India’s bowlers kept them quiet with Bangladesh failing to hit a boundary for over 50 deliveries. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty was run out for 9 off 24 balls after a sharp fielding effort by Radha Yadav. Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav starred with the ball taking 3 for 30 in six overs while N Shree Charani picked up 2 for 23. Sharmin Akhter (36 off 53 balls 4 fours) and Sobhana Mostary (26 off 21 balls 4 fours) tried to rebuild the innings adding some quick runs. Mostary struck consecutive boundaries off Deepti Sharma and one more off Radha Yadav earlier. What setback did India suffer? India suffered a setback when opener Pratika Rawal injured herself while trying to stop a boundary hit by Sharmin Akhter off Deepti Sharma. She slipped on the damp ground and had to be helped off the field by the physio. Bangladesh eventually finished at 119/9 in 27 overs a total India seemed well on track to chase before rain intervened once again forcing the match to end with no result.
