The government is continuously taking steps to make the country a global leader in next-generation communication technology, according to official data released on Sunday. Following the rapid rollout and adoption of 5G, the government is now focusing on developing 6G technology under its "India 6G Vision," which aims to make India an advanced telecom innovation hub by 2030.

6G Based on This Vision
According to the government, India's 6G vision is based on the principles of affordability, sustainability, and universal access. It aims to ensure that every citizen benefits from high-speed connectivity while promoting indigenous research, innovation, and collaboration with global partners. This initiative is deeply linked to the national goal of building a "developed India" by 2047. After 5G, sixth-generation or 6G technology will be the next major advancement in wireless communications. It is expected to be 1,000 times faster than 5G and will accelerate data transfer.

Contribution of $1.2 trillion to GDP

6G will advance real-time applications such as remote surgery, advanced robotics, smart cities, and immersive virtual experiences. India's 6G roadmap targets this sector, contributing approximately US$1.2 trillion to the national GDP by 2035. The country aims to achieve a 10 percent share of global 6G patents, reflecting India's emergence as a hub of innovation in communications technology. Concurrently, the satellite communications market is projected to triple by 2033, strengthening India's space-based connectivity ecosystem.

Through initiatives such as the India 6G Alliance, the Telecommunications Technology Development Fund, and active partnerships with global research institutions, India is steadily moving from a technology adopter to a technology developer and standard-setter.
