Special Intensive Revision: After Bihar, voter list will be updated in 12 states and union territories of the country. The Election Commission told in the press conference on Monday that the Special Intensive Revision or SIR of the voter list in these states will start from October 28 and will end on February 7. In order to ensure that the common people remain the real strength of the system in Indian democracy, the special intensive revision process of the voter list started by the Election Commission created such a storm that the matter reached the streets and politics became heated.

The exercise which started from Bihar has now been announced to be conducted in other 12 states of the country also. There is strong opposition to SIR in those states of the country where there are elections in the coming year. Most of the protests are taking place in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In all these three states, the allies of the India Alliance are in power.

Protest in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, CM Stalin has described SIR as a web of conspiracies. On the other hand, along with the SIR of the Election Commission, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC is going to start a big election campaign in West Bengal. TMC has announced that a huge rally will be organized in Kolkata on 2nd November against SIR. Abhishek Banerjee himself will raise the flag of protest against this campaign of the Election Commission.

Transfer of officers in Bengal

On the other hand, even before the start of SIR, Mamata government changed 64 IAS including DM of 10 districts in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee calls the SIR process being done by the Election Commission as another form of NRC. So Bengal BJP says that if SIR is done properly then the names of more than one crore illegal voters in Bengal will be deleted. There is opposition to SIR in states like Bengal to Tamil Nadu, but Maharashtra is a state where local body elections are going to be held in January but SIR is not happening here.

Congress’s question to the Election Commission

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari has given a strong reaction to the press conference on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Election Commission. He said the party has three major objections to this process. First, when the matter is pending in the Supreme Court, then why is the Election Commission so enthusiastic about implementing SIR across the country in such a hurry. Secondly, why did the Commission not make public the information to illegal immigrants in Bihar, while BJP used this issue politically.

Controversy started regarding Assam

The third question of the Congress leader was whether there is such a thing in Assam. Sir Why is the process not being carried out? Pramod Tiwari wrote this Central government Describing it as a failure, he said that this is a big slap on the policies of Modi and Shah, because till now no illegal migrant has been caught, whereas they had repeatedly raised this issue in the election forums.
