According to Ayurveda, copper helps in balancing the tridoshas of the body – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It is believed that drinking water kept in a copper vessel in the morning on an empty stomach improves digestion, brightens the skin and strengthens the hair roots. Copper helps in the formation of melanin, the pigment that keeps hair black. Therefore it is traditionally said that copper water can slow down the process of hair greying.

Copper is a trace mineral that plays a role in activating the Tyrosinase enzyme involved in melanin production in the body. If there is a deficiency of copper in the body, hair may turn gray prematurely. But just drinking water kept in a copper vessel does not provide enough copper to directly bring back the color of hair or stop graying completely. That is, it can be helpful, but not the only solution.
Caution
Too much copper can also be harmful to the body (copper toxicity). Keep the copper vessel clean, do not keep water in it for more than 6-8 hours. Drink water only in steel or glass.
