Agniveers Time Period: Some significant changes are underway regarding the recruitment of Agniveers under the Agnipath scheme. This scheme recruits all three armed forces. The current four-year tenure for Agniveers is being considered to be extended to 6-8 years. According to reports, the Ministry of Defense is working to further improve the Agnipath scheme. The first batch of Agniveers is expected to be retired in June 2026. Therefore, preparations are underway to make changes to this scheme.
According to reports, three aspects are being considered: first, increasing the percentage of permanent Agniveers. Additionally, discussions are underway regarding extending their tenure. Third, increasing the benefits for those who retire after four years is also being discussed. The exact increase in the percentage of permanent Agniveers, which will be 25% after four years, has not yet been disclosed.
What is the Agniveer Recruitment Scheme?
Under the Agniveer Scheme, soldiers are recruited into the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force for a four-year term. After four years of service, 75 percent are released from their duties, while the remaining 25 percent are permanently appointed.
Agniveers' Salary
Each Agniveer receives a monthly salary of ₹30,000 in the first year of recruitment. This salary increases to ₹33,000 in the second year, ₹36,500 in the third year, and ₹40,000 in the fourth year. After four years, the Agniveer will have deposited ₹5.02 lakh into the Seva Nidhi Fund, and ₹5.02 lakh from the government. This means that after depositing ₹10.4 lakh, the total amount, along with interest, will be ₹11.71 lakh.
