The government has taken a major decision to provide Delhi with clean and fresh air. BS4 and BS5 diesel commercial vehicles will no longer be allowed to enter Delhi's borders.

Delhi's air is becoming increasingly toxic. With the arrival of winter, the amount of smoke, dust, and toxic particles in the capital's air increases, making breathing difficult. In such a situation, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's government has taken a major decision to provide Delhi with clean and fresh air. BS4 and BS5 diesel commercial vehicles will no longer be allowed to enter Delhi's borders. This means that if your vehicle is not BS6, it will be completely prohibited from entering or driving Delhi. So, let's learn about the new rules and what will happen if BS4 and BS5 diesel vehicles are brought into Delhi from November 1st.

What is the new rule?

According to an order from the Delhi government and the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), starting November 1, 2025, only BS6, CNG, LNG, and electric commercial vehicles will be allowed into Delhi. Older vehicles, i.e., BS4, BS5, and older diesel vehicles, will not be allowed to enter Delhi. Under this rule, which will come into effect on November 1, 2025, only certain vehicles have been granted exemptions. BS6 diesel vehicles will be completely exempt. CNG, LNG, and electric vehicles will also be allowed entry.

Regarding this, BS4 diesel vehicles registered in Delhi have been granted temporary permission until October 31, 2026. Every year, from October to January, Delhi's air reaches the very poor or severe category, after which it becomes filled with toxic particles like PM2.5 and PM10, which are extremely harmful to the lungs and heart. This is why the government has decided to keep vehicles with older engines out of the capital.

What will happen if you drive a BS4 or BS5 diesel vehicle to Delhi?

If you enter Delhi with your BS4 or BS5 diesel truck or commercial vehicle after November 1, 2025, it will be considered a direct violation of the rules. In such a case, the vehicle may be confiscated, a heavy fine imposed, and legal action may be taken against the driver or owner. The government has also stated that such old vehicles will not be given diesel or petrol at petrol pumps. Furthermore, this rule is not limited to Delhi. The government has clearly stated that this order will also apply to the districts of the NCR. These districts include Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, and Sonipat. Now, old vehicles will not be allowed to enter the roads adjoining the NCR borders.
