Mouni Roy's Badmaash restaurant, Mumbai
After dominating Indian television with shows like Mahadev and Naagin, actor Mouni Roy has built a name for herself in the restaurant space. In 2023, she partnered with VRO Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. to launch Badmaash, which has since expanded to Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Known for its bold Indian menu and striking interiors, Mouni Roy’s Badmaash restaurant has made waves not only for its design but also for the prices of its dishes — with Jhalmuri costing Rs 395 and Masala Peanuts priced at Rs 300.

Distinctive décor and premium pricing

Badmaash stands out for its jungle-inspired décor, featuring hanging greenery, warm ochre tones, and soft lighting that gives the restaurant a stylish yet earthy ambience. The Andheri outlet in Mumbai remains the most popular, drawing crowds for its photogenic interiors and creative menu presentation.
The restaurant offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian dishes, generally priced between Rs 300 and Rs 800. Traditional desserts such as Shahi Tukda and Gulab Jamun are listed at Rs 410 each, while Jain-friendly soups like Tomato Tulsi Shorba and Palak Nariyal Ka Shorba are priced at Rs 315.

Among its most talked-about dishes is the Avocado Bhel (Rs 395) — a modern twist on the classic street snack. “I love avocado and I love jhalmuri, so we came up with Avocado Bhel,” Mouni told IndianRetailer.com.

A drink designed for its owner

The restaurant’s drinks menu features a signature cocktail called Mounilicious (Rs 695) — a refreshing mix of gin, cucumber, kiwi, lemon, elderflower, and sparkling water. The actress, who admits she doesn’t enjoy sweets, said the drink was created especially for her. “I don’t like sweets or desserts, so they came up with a drink called Mounilicious — it’s yummy but not sweet,” she shared.

Other staples on the menu include Masala Papad, Crispy Corn, and Sev Puri (Rs 295 each), Kanda Bhajiya (Rs 355), and seafood preparations priced around Rs 795. Breads such as Tandoori Roti (Rs 105), Naan (Rs 115), and Amritsari Kulcha (Rs 145) complete the lineup.

Inspired by travel, powered by partnerships

The Naagin actress credits her husband Suraj Nambiar and his partners at VRO Hospitality for introducing her to the restaurant business. “Whenever I travelled, I would sit at a café with my book, a coffee, and a croissant. That ritual made me dream of owning a café,” she said. “Thanks to my husband and his best friends at VRO, I got the opportunity to own a restaurant — and I jumped at it.”

Roy added that her love for Indian cuisine was a driving force behind Badmaash’s concept. “Whenever I travel for work, I look for Indian restaurants. I feel we don’t have enough good Indian restaurants, especially in Bengaluru and Mumbai, so this was a great opportunity to change that,” she said.

Virat Kohli’s One8 Commune

Meanwhile, cricketer Virat Kohli’s Mumbai restaurant One8 Commune continues to attract attention, not only for its celebrity owner but also for its iconic location. The Juhu outlet is housed in Gouri Kunj, the former bungalow of legendary singer Kishore Kumar.

The restaurant, part of Kohli’s growing One8 Commune chain with outlets in Delhi, Pune, and Kolkata, combines heritage with a contemporary aesthetic. The space retains the bungalow’s old-world charm but introduces a glass-roofed structure, allowing ample sunlight to filter through, creating a bright and relaxed dining atmosphere.

The menu offers a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, with a special section called “Virat’s Favourites” featuring tofu steak, mushroom dumplings with truffle oil, and a superfood salad, reflecting the cricketer’s vegetarian lifestyle. According to TOI, the pricing remains on the premium side — steamed rice costs Rs 318, salted fries Rs 348, tandoori roti or baby naan Rs 118, and mascarpone cheesecake Rs 748. The restaurant even includes pet-friendly meals, priced between Rs 518 and Rs 818.
