Shreyas Iyer’s spleen injury: Recently, Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious injury during the third ODI match against Australia. It is being told that he suffered spleen laceration, due to which he suffered internal bleeding and had to be kept in ICU. At present his health is better but there is a risk of injury. Spleen is a part of our body, so it is a small organ on the left side of the body, below the ribs and above the stomach. It is called spleen in Hindi. The spleen removes old or damaged red blood cells (RBCs) and produces new white blood cells to protect the body from infection.
Let us tell you, according to the report of Cleveland Clinic of US, Spleen has been described as a part of the body. Talking about this particular spleen laceration problem, when a person suddenly falls with a heavy blow or receives a strong blow to the stomach, then the spleen can crack or rupture. This injury to the spleen is called spleen laceration. In case of injury to the spleen, severe pain or pressure is felt in the upper abdomen on the left side. If there is a crack in the spleen or the spleen bursts, then internal bleeding starts. This is a medical emergency. If bleeding is excessive, there is a risk of death.
Let us tell you that in this disease, if there is a slight injury to the spleen, doctors provide minor treatment. At the same time, doctors usually recommend bed rest and monitoring. At the same time, if there is excessive bleeding in this problem, then surgery has to be done, which is called splenectomy. During this surgery, some part or the entire organ of the spleen is removed. To avoid any kind of danger in this problem, special precautions have to be taken to avoid infection, because due to absence of spleen, the immunity of the body becomes weak. Apart from this, a person suffering from this problem should stay away from any physical activity or sports for at least a few weeks. At the same time, if symptoms like fever, stomach pain or fatigue appear again, then medical examination should be done immediately.
