Veteran Telugu film star Chiranjeevi, one of South India’s most celebrated actors, has filed a police complaint against the creators of AI-generated deepfake obscene videos that he says have severely damaged his reputation and caused emotional trauma to his family.

The 70-year-old actor, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, lodged the case with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. Following his complaint, police registered a case under various sections to cybercrime, defamation, and the use of artificial intelligence in creating manipulated pornographic content.

According to reports, the AI-generated deepfake videos depict Chiranjeevi in obscene and inappropriate scenes, fabricated using advanced artificial intelligence tools. The actor stated that these videos are completely fake and have been deliberately created to malign his public image.

In his complaint, Chiranjeevi asserted that the maliciously edited videos were produced with ill intent “to portray me in a vulgar and indecent manner, thereby distorting my public perception.”

He further added, “This act has not only caused severe mental anguish to me and my family but has also misled the public and attempted to tarnish a good reputation I have built over several decades.”

Chiranjeevi, who enjoys massive respect across India’s film industry, emphasized that the misuse of AI and deepfake technology poses a grave threat to individuals’ privacy, integrity, and dignity. He urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible and to introduce stronger legal safeguards against such emerging cyber threats.

The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have begun an investigation, analyzing the origins of the manipulated videos and tracking the individuals or networks involved in their creation and online circulation. This incident has reignited debate in India’s entertainment industry about the ethical and legal challenges posed by AI-generated deepfakes, especially concerning celebrities and public figures.
