Shreyas Iyer suffered a blunt abdominal injury, ending up with his spleen laceration and internal bleeding, on Saturday, 25th of October during the third ODI played against Australia.

The injury was immediately identified and the bleeding arrested immediately. His condition is stable now, and he remains under observation. A follow-up scan on Tuesday, 28th October, has indicated proper improvement, and Shreyas is recovering. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney as well as India, will remain in touch to monitor his progress.

Iyer, a key member of the Indian side, was manning the backward point area during the third and final ODI of the series against Australia on October 25 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. On a Harshit Rana delivery in the 34th over, Australia's Alex Carey tried a desperate slog, but that presented an opportunity for Iyer, as he covered a lot of ground running behind and pulled off an incredible catch.

But while finishing the catch, the 30-year-old fell awkwardly on his stomach, which caused a knock around his rib cage region. While leaving the SCG and getting hospitalized, the scans showed that the cricketer suffered a lot of internal bleeding.

Doing things quickly, Iyer was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where the treatment procedures were initiated quickly at the St. Vincent's Private Hospital, Sydney.

If the reports are to be believed, Iyer is said to have survived a kill accident, as the injury being a bit more severe might have turned out to be a life-threatening one.

But BCCI physio Kamlesh Jain and his support team did not waste any time and made sure that Iyer underwent the best and timely treatment as one of the most valuable batters in the team, present at the moment. He should be discharged by the end of this week now.
