Bayern Munich identify Harry Kane successor as club plans for Premier League transfer

Bayern Munich are not expected to pursue a permanent move for Nicolas Jackson as a long-term successor to Harry Kane, it has been claimed. Instead, Bundesliga star Fisnik Asllani has emerged as an alternative for the Bavarian club.

Jackson made a deadline-day loan switch from Chelsea, with an option to make the move permanent next summer for £56.25million. However, the early signs point to the Senegal international returning to his parent club at the end of the campaign.

The loanee has yet to score in six Bundesliga appearances - three of them starts. He has fared better in Europe, though, delivering two goals and one assist across three Champions League outings.

Kosovo striker Asllani has fared rather better domestically, though. The Hoffenheim star, 23, has five goals and one assist in six league outings while also finding the net against Hansa Rostock in the cup.

He also scored a big goal for his country, sealing a win away to Sweden which gives Kosovo a fighting chance of World Cup qualification for the first time. Now, according to Sky Sport in Germany, Bayern have been gathering information on the forward's release clause, while seemingly leaning towards an exit for Jackson.

The same outlet indicates Bayern aren't the only team in the mix, with Barcelona also eyeing up the Kosovo star as a successor to Robert Lewandowski. Were he to choose Bayern, he would likely initially serve as a rotation option behind Kane, who is under contract until 2027 and could yet stay beyond then, but has been linked with a return to the Premier League.

“In terms of staying there longer, I could definitely see that," Kane said during the October international break. “I have not had those conversations with Bayern yet but if they were to arise I would be willing to talk and have an honest conversation. Obviously, it depends on how the next year or so goes and what we achieve together. Right now, I would say we are in a fantastic moment and I am not thinking about anything else.

“In terms of the Premier League, I don’t know. If you had asked me when I first left to go to Bayern, I would have said for sure I would come back. Now I have been there a couple of years, I would probably say that has gone down a little bit, not so much, but I wouldn’t say I would never go back."

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany has defended Jackson after the loanee's slow start at the Allianz Arena. However, the comments provide no guarantee of a longer stay.

"I have a different opinion of Nicolas Jackson than the public, but obviously when he scores a few more goals there won't be a debate anymore," Kompany told reporters on Tuesday. "I'm of the opinion that he's already helped a lot."

The Belgian added: "Nobody is assured of their place -- I don't like the word being a 'shoo-in' as a starter because everyone has to earn their minutes by performing, We are talking about how we see it and [when it comes to] who to add to that trio [Olise, Díaz and Kane] it's about form, it's about tactics. Those three won't do it by themselves in the next three games, we need the help of the other players as well."
