An expert has revealed which room of the house serves as the perfect location to air dry your bedding - and it might come as a shock. Autumn is officially here, with the chillier weather set to stick around for the foreseeable future alongside darker evenings now the clocks have changed.
Achieving dry clothing and bedding can prove tricky now temperatures have dropped - particularly as they will continue to fall. Those without a tumble dryer, or who are cautious about using it excessively while energy bills continue to soar, are fortunate however as it seems there's one room in your property which can help accelerate the air drying process. Martin Seeley, sleep specialist and CEO at MattressNextDay, has revealed several tips and techniques on how to dry your bedding more quickly without accumulating additional expenses.
According to him, the bathroom is one of the finest locations in the home to achieve fresh, dry sheets quickly.
The bathroom isn't the initial place that comes to mind regarding drying garments and sheets - after all, it's susceptible to moisture and is frequently damp with steam due to people's daily showers and baths. However, Seeley has praised its surprising bedding-drying capabilities.
He explained: "Your bathroom can actually be one of the best rooms for drying sheets. It might sound unusual, but bathrooms are designed to handle moisture. The extractor fan helps remove humid air, and if you open a window, it creates a gentle airflow that speeds up evaporation."
The expert continued: "The warmth from recent showers also helps to raise the temperature slightly, which encourages water to evaporate more quickly from fabrics. Place your airer near the fan or window, and you will notice your bedding dries faster and smells fresher."
Beyond this guidance, Seeley also offered recommendations on the optimal time of day for washing your bedding. He explained: "Try to wash your bed sheets in the morning. It gives them the whole day to dry naturally.
"When you wash later in the evening, the cooler air slows everything down. If you can, start your wash before midday so your bedding benefits from daytime warmth and air flow."
Some people remain cautious about the additional humidity in their bathrooms and suggest using different rooms, such as a bedroom, with a dehumidifier running to extract moisture from items.
On Reddit, one person revealed their technique: "Clothes drying rack with the dehumidifier next to it in a closed room. Takes maybe 3-4 hours to dry (it's only a 10l dehumidifier)."
Another concurred: "On a clothes horse, with a dehumidifier nearby. Depending on temp takes up to 2 days, and I flip it in the morning."
However, a third shared their bathroom is their preferred air drying location: "I hang mine over [the] shower curtain rail, when the heating is on it dries the same day".
