BCCI on Indian team being denied Asia Cup trophy: The BCCI will lodge a "strong protest" at the next ICC meeting in November against Asian Cricket Council chief Mohsin Naqvi, who walked away with the Asia Cup trophy after the Indian team refused to accept it from him in Dubai.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia justified the team's refusal by saying that "India cannot accept the trophy from a person who is "waging a war against the country." Devjit Saikia further said, "This is unexpected, very childish and we will lodge a strong protest with the ICC in the upcoming ICC meeting to be held in Dubai in the first week of November. " Naqvi is the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board and also the Home Minister of his country. Saikia praised the Indian team's undefeated performance in the competition.
Let us tell you that India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the final on Sunday, in which Tilak Verma played an unbeaten inning of 69 runs and was chosen the player of the match of the final match.
At the same time, after the match, Naqvi was standing on one side before the start of the award distribution ceremony and the Indian players were standing within 15 yards. They refused to move from their places and the ceremony was getting delayed.
It is understood that the Indian team management asked who would give the winner's trophy and talks started among themselves in the ACC as they knew that the Indian team would not like to take the trophy from Naqvi. After Naqvi came on stage, Indian fans from the audience started chanting 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'.
As soon as Naqvi came on stage, he was told that the Indian team would not take the trophy from him and if he used force, an official protest would be lodged. Naqvi kept waiting and suddenly someone from the organizers took the trophy inside the dressing room.
