New Delhi: Marizanne Kapp delivered an impactful all-round performance to help South Africa thrash England by 125 runs in the first semi-final to qualify for the final of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. Kapp scored a valuable 42 and followed it up with a memorable five-wicket haul with the ball to power Proteas into their maiden Women’s ODI World Cup final.
Kapp’s fifer helped South Africa bundle out England for a paltry 194 runs and comfortably defend their massive total of 319 runs to register a thumping victory in the semi-final. The veteran all-rounder etched her name in history with her five-wicket haul as she surpassed India legend Jhulan Goswami to become the highest wicket-taker of all time in Women’s ODI World Cup history.
Kapp got South Africa off to a dream start with the ball during England’s 320-run chase in the semi-final with a double-wicket maiden first over. She dismissed England opener Amy Jones on a duck on the 2nd ball of the first over, before cleaning up Heather Knight on a duck on the next ball to take two wickets in two balls.
Ayabonga Khaka struck in the 2nd over to get Tammy Beaumont on a duck, reducing England to taters at 1/3. Capp then ran through the middle order to finish with brilliant figures of 5/20 off her seven overs and complete her second five-wicket haul for South Africa in the Women’s ODI World Cup.
Her five-wicket haul helped her extend her wickets tally to 44 in the Women’s ODI World Cups and become the leading wicket-taker of all-time in the tournament. With 44 wickets in 30 matches at an average of 20.81, Kapp went past Goswami, who picked up 43 wickets in 34 matches for India in the Women’s ODI World Cup. Former Australia spinner Lynette Ann Fullston is in the 3rd spot with 39 wickets.
