Mohammed Shami clashes with BCCI : A fast bowler outside the Indian team Mohammed Shamihas once again strengthened his claim for a comeback with his brilliant performance in the Ranji Trophy. While playing for Bengal, Shami took 15 wickets in two matches, a performance that proved his fitness and pace to be excellent. In the second round match against Gujarat at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, he took a total of 8 wickets and played a key role in Bengal’s impressive victory.
In the second innings against Gujarat, Shami took 5 wickets for 38 runs and led the team to a resounding victory by 141 runs. What does he think about chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s statement about not being included in the squad for the Australia tour? When asked this question, Shami smiled and said, “I knew this question was going to come. I am always in some sort of controversy. You guys have already made me a villain. Everything is being distorted on social media these days. My job is just to perform well and always be ready for the Indian team. I will give my best wherever I get a chance. The rest is up to the selectors.”
Shami added, “It’s very satisfying to come out of a tough period and do well. The post-World Cup period was tough for me, but I didn’t give up. I got my rhythm back by playing Ranji Trophy, white-ball cricket, IPL and Duleep Trophy and now I feel I still have a lot of cricket left in me.”
Mohammed ShamiHis childhood coach Mohammad Badruddin has also praised his performance. “Shami’s form is back and he’s fully fit. When he’s in his form, he’s a different bowler. What I saw today was the same Shami. I didn’t see any flaws in him,” he told The Indian Express.
Mohammad Shami has not played a single match for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final. He last played in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand on 9 March 2025 in Dubai. Now, his brilliant performance in the Ranji Trophy has made it possible for him to return to the dressing room of Team India once again.
