Gopashtami method of worship

It is considered very auspicious to worship in this manner on the day of Gopashtami: wake up before sunrise, take bath and wear clean clothes. Bathe the mother cow and her calf. Paint their horns or apply sandalwood. Offer them new clothes or Kalava and decorate them with garlands of flowers. Light incense, lamp and apply tilak with Roli, Akshat and turmeric in front of Mother Cow. After this, perform their aarti and do parikrama. Feed specially prepared food (like green fodder, jaggery, roti or sweet porridge) to the mother cow. Along with Mother Cow, worship Lord Shri Krishna duly and listen to the story of Gopashtami. If possible, go to a cowshed on this day and serve cows, donate or donate fodder for cows.

Importance of Gopashtami

In Hindu religion 'Mother Cow' is said to be the abode of Gods and Goddesses. The festival of Gopashtami is associated with the Leela of Lord Shri Krishna: According to mythology, on this day Lord Shri Krishna started the Leela of Gaucharan (herding cows) for the first time. Before this they used to graze only calves. According to another story, on the day of Gopashtami, Lord Krishna saved the people of Braj from the wrath of Indra i.e. heavy rains by lifting Govardhan Mountain.

When Indra's ego was dissolved, he asked for forgiveness and from that day the festival of Gopashtami started being celebrated. On this day, serving mother cow, bathing her, decorating her and feeding her is considered very auspicious. It is believed that serving cows destroys all sins and brings wealth, prosperity and good fortune in life.
