Major changes have been made to the recruitment process for Sub-Inspector (SI) and Constable (Executive) positions in the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The Ministry of Railways recently issued new rules, including key information regarding the age limit, physical standards, and examination process. These changes aim to bring RPF recruitment on par with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The new rules have been published in the Gazette of India and are now in effect.
Changes in Age Limit and Qualifications
According to the revised rules, candidates must be between 18 and 23 years of age for the post of Constable. Previously, this limit was 18 to 25 years. The age limit for Sub-Inspector (SI) positions has been fixed at 20 to 28 years.
No major changes have been made to the educational qualifications. A 10th-grade pass is required for Constable recruitment, while a graduate from a recognized university is required for the post of SI.
Improvements in Physical and Medical Standards
Under the new rules, physical standards have also been tightened. The minimum height, which was previously 165 centimeters, has now been increased to 170 centimeters. Furthermore, the chest measurement has been set at 80 centimeters without expansion and 85 centimeters with expansion.
The medical examination process has also been changed. Instead of RPF medical officers, CAPF medical officers, or Grade-1 government medical officers will examine candidates.
RPF Recruitment Process More Transparent
These new rules have made the RPF recruitment process more transparent and standardized. The Railways states that these changes will improve and make the recruitment system for the security forces more efficient.
