Auraiya, 31 October (Read). The dream of Har Ghar Jal Yojana under Jal Jeevan Mission in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh is now proving to be a far-fetched reality. The government may be making tall claims of ensuring water supply by building drinking water tanks in every gram panchayat, but the reality is that these tanks have now become white elephants.

Due to continuous rain for the last four days, water supply running on solar energy has come to a standstill. In the absence of solar charging, the arrangement for water supply from generators is on paper, but in reality these generators have been lying closed for months. As a result, people in rural areas are craving every drop of water.

According to the information, water supply was started by building water tanks in the gram panchayats of almost all the development blocks of Auraiya district. Under the scheme, motors run when charged with solar energy and water is supplied to the villages. But in bad weather, when solar charging is not possible, a provision was made to supply from the generator. Despite this, generators are not being run due to non-availability of diesel.

Villagers say that water supply has stopped for the last several days and despite continuous complaints to the authorities, no hearing is taking place. Head of Aima Senganpur Gram Panchayat, Imran Khan said that in bad weather, assurance was given to start water supply from generator by sending diesel, but till now no action has been taken at the ground level.

Local resident Mulayam Singh Yadav has warned that if the problem is not resolved soon, a decisive movement will be started by uniting the villagers.

This situation of the government’s ambitious Har Ghar Jal Yojana is now raising questions on the working style of the responsible officials. Amidst the suffering of the villagers and the apathy of the administration, these tanks of Jal Jeevan Mission have actually become mere decorative items.

In this regard, JE Ravikant of Jalnigam said that the weather has been bad for the last four-five days. From today onwards, diesel will be supplied everywhere and water supply will be started from generators.
