A video on social media completely shook the life of a 44 year old contractor in Pune. In the video, a woman was saying in a serious voice – “I want a man who can make me a mother… I will give him Rs 25 lakh. I don’t care about his caste, color or education.” This video was uploaded on a page named ‘Pregnant Job’. At first the contractor found this very strange, but out of greed for Rs 25 lakh, he called the number given in the video.

Fraud script running in the name of ‘company’

The person who picked up the call introduced himself as an assistant of ‘Pregnant Job Company’. He said that for this “work” first registration is necessary. Then the process of money started – registration fee, ID card charge, verification fee, GST, TDS, processing charge… every time a new excuse and new payment was demanded. The contractor kept transferring the money with his eyes closed, thinking that soon he would get both the money and the ‘meeting’.

11 lakh rupees wasted in more than 100 transactions

According to the police, the contractor made more than 100 online transfers from the first week of September to October 23 – sometimes through UPI, sometimes through IMPS. Altogether Rs 11 lakh went missing. The person in front kept assuring that “everything is in process” and the woman would be met soon. But as soon as the contractor started asking more questions, the number got blocked and the dream was shattered.

Police started investigation

Now the victim contractor has lodged a complaint in the cyber police station. Police say that this is a fake social media gang, which is cheating people by creating fake accounts with names like “Pregnant Job”. The investigation is ongoing and is expected to reach the thugs soon.
