Bengaluru Metro: The fifth metro train on the Bengaluru Metro aka the Namma Metro network Yellow Line will be begin its operations from Saturday (November 1) to mark the 70th Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations. How new train will improve services on Yellow Line? In a statement on Friday the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced that a fifth metro train will be inducted into commercial service on the Namma Metro Yellow Line from November 1 which will improve the frequency of services on the busy metro line during peak hours. With the addition of this train the frequency of services on the Yellow Line during peak hours will improve to every 15 minutes compared to the current 19-minute interval. This improvement will help provide smoother and more reliable service to commuters with reduced waiting times. This change will be effective on all days the BMRCL statement said. The corporation clarified that there will be no change in the first and last train timings from either terminal—R V Road and Bommasandra and also urged commuters to take note of the change and make use of the enhanced metro services. Earlier in September the BMRCL had inducted a fourth metro train on the Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line. Who built Yellow Line trainsets? The coaches for the new Yellow Line train were manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) under a sub-contract with Chinas state-owned CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd officials said. The BMRCL awarded TRSL a Rs 1578-crore contract in December 2019 to deliver 36 trainsets 15 for the Yellow Line and 21 for the Purple and Green lines within 173 weeks. But the order was delayed as CRCC could not find an Indian partner for a long time and later faced visa troubles for bringing in its engineers from China. A prototype train for the Yellow Line was delivered by CRRC in February 2024 while TSRL delivered two more trainsets this year. All three trains are currently operation in the 19.15-km long Yellow Line which opened on August 11 with a 25-minute frequency. (With inputs from agencies)
