Every year November is observed as National Epilepsy Awareness Month, which aims to increase understanding and awareness of epilepsy among people. This disease can be dealt with by maintaining mental peace and adopting a regular lifestyle. Yoga is also an effective solution in this direction, because it not only increases the flexibility of the body but also calms the mind and nervous system.

Epilepsy is called epilepsy in English. It is a neurological disorder to the brain. Due to the sudden onset of seizures, epilepsy is very stressful for both the patient and their family. Epilepsy is not completely controlled by taking medicines alone. Reducing stress and adopting a regular lifestyle is equally important in dealing with this disease.

Uttanasana: Uttanasana is one of the very beneficial asanas for epilepsy patients. By doing this asana, the muscles of the body, especially the muscles of the shoulders, waist and lower legs, are stretched. Stretching not only brings flexibility to the body but also makes the brain feel relaxed. Due to reduction in stress and anxiety, the possibility of epileptic seizures decreases. People who do it regularly as per their capacity also get relief from stress and fatigue of the day.

Halasana: Halasana is a very useful asana for epilepsy patients. Practicing this asana removes stiffness of nerves and muscles, due to which both body and mind feel relaxed. Regular practice of Halasana calms the nervous system and helps reduce stress. Apart from this, it is also effective in reducing belly fat and providing relief from back and neck pain. Staying mentally calm can keep epileptic seizures under control and helps in bringing positive changes in the life of the patient.

Shavasana: This is a completely relaxing asana for the mind and the entire body. It is extremely effective in calming the brain and central nervous system. Practicing Shavasana regularly not only relieves stress and anxiety, but also controls blood pressure and reduces sleep problems. This asana is especially useful for epilepsy patients, because stress and mental restlessness are a major cause of seizures.

Balasana: This is one of the easy and effective asanas for both children and adults. Practicing this asana calms the mind and improves the functioning of the central nervous system. Epileptic seizures often occur due to mental stress and Balasana helps in relieving this stress. By doing this the patient gets relief, the mind becomes calm and energy circulates in the body in a better way.

Matsyasana: Matsyasana is also a very beneficial asana for epilepsy patients. This asana improves the functioning of the brain and reduces stress. Matsyasana helps in creating balance between mind and body. There is good stretching of the muscles of the upper body and tension is released, due to which the brain remains more calm and happy. This asana provides mental peace during yoga practice, which is helpful in controlling epileptic seizures.
