The Trump administration is preparing potential military strikes against facilities in Venezuela allegedly tied to the Soles drug cartel, which U.S. officials claim is linked to President Nicolás Maduro’s inner circle, the Miami Herald reported, citing sources familiar with the plans.

According to the report, the planned operations — which could take place within days or even hours — would target military installations believed to support the cartel’s activities. The objective would be to dismantle key infrastructure and disrupt the alleged narcotics network.

The Soles cartel is suspected by U.S. authorities of exporting roughly 500 tons of cocaine annually across American and European markets, the report said.

While the sources did not confirm whether Maduro himself is a direct target, one source suggested the Venezuelan leader’s options may be shrinking. Maduro “might soon discover that he cannot flee the country even if he decided to,” the source reportedly said, adding that some military generals may be willing to hand him over if circumstances escalate.

If carried out, the move would mark a major escalation in Washington’s efforts to pressure Maduro’s government and crack down on what it alleges is a state-linked narcotrafficking network.
