In its advisory issued on Thursday, October 30, CERT-In said that this flaw in Google Chrome to cyber attackers can give access to your system, putting your personal data on your PC at risk. In their vulnerability note, CIVN-2025-0288, the government agency advised users of Google Chrome’s desktop platform to download the latest update of the browser to avoid this.
The government agency recommends that Linux users update to Google Chrome version 142.0.7444.59 and Windows and Mac users update to Google Chrome version 142.0.7444.59/60 or earlier. This issue has been observed in older versions of Google Chrome, including the V8 JavaScript engine, extensions, autofill, media, and omnibox. Hackers can exploit this vulnerability to gain access to users’ PCs.

CERT-IN said in its advisory that Google has been notified of the issue and classified it as a high-risk warning. The government has advised Google Chrome users on desktops and laptops to update their browsers with the latest software to ensure that the issue is resolved.
