A few months ago, Apple’s software engineering chief Craig Federighi had explained that the first-generation architecture that was being developed for personalised Siri was too limited and not up to the company’s standards. The tech giant then worked on second-generation architecture and realised it still had a long way to go before it could add new capabilities to Siri. Now, it looks like the new Siri features will be coming with the iOS 26.4 update.

During the company’s recent earnings call, Cook said they are “making good progress” on AI Siri and that they are “open to pursuing M&A if we think that it will advance our roadmap.”Talking about Trump’s tariffs, Apple confirmed that it incurred $1.1 billion in additional costs in the third quarter and is expecting $1.4 billion in tariff costs in the December quarter.

In the last few months, several reports have hinted that Apple is considering a partnership with Anthropic, Google and Perplexity to offer an AI search tool for Siri, but the delay has already prompted numerous class-action lawsuits from users.

In the meantime, Apple is also working on some major upgrades to some of its most popular devices – including the MacBook Air, iPad Air and the iPad mini. Reports suggest that the tech giant is testing these products with OLED screens, which delivers deeper blacks, improves contrast and have a wider range of colours.
