New Delhi: Once again Apple is going to make a big change in the technological world. A recent leak by Chinese tipster Setsuna Digital has revealed that the company is preparing to remove traditional mechanical buttons from all its devices by 2027. These will be replaced by solid-state haptic control technology, which will provide a sense of touch and pressure without any actual button movement.

Dream of button-free iPhone by 2027

According to the report, Apple has successfully completed the functional verification or testing phase of this technology. This means that the company’s prototype devices are working smoothly on this new system. If all goes according to plan, the iPhone 20 due in 2027 will be the world’s first iPhone without any traditional clicking buttons.

This step by Apple will not only be revolutionary in terms of design, but it will also increase the strength and waterproofing of the device. Less moving parts will mean less chance of malfunction, which will make the phone more durable.

How will this technology work?

The new solid-state buttons will look similar to traditional buttons, but they don’t actually move. When pressed, they will generate vibration feedback with the help of taptic engine, which will give the user the experience of pressing a real button.

This is the same technology that has previously been used in the iPhone 7’s solid-state home button and the MacBook’s Force Touch trackpad. Now Apple wants to extend this concept to all its buttons like power, volume, action and camera controls.

Change will happen gradually

Setsuna Digital says that Apple will not make this change all at once. This process may begin with the iPhone 18 series coming in 2026, which will act as a bridge between the current and full solid-state designs. It is believed that the camera control button will be the first to adopt this new technology, which will be based on pressure-sensing design.

Expand to more devices in the future

This experiment of Apple will not be limited to iPhone only. The company is also planning to bring the same solid-state technology to devices like iPad and Apple Watch. It aims to provide a uniform touch-based interface experience across all its devices.

In the future, the company will further advance this technology and use piezoelectric ceramic components. These tiny elements can create highly precise vibrations when applied, making pressing a button feel even more realistic.
