Som Pradosh Vrat Katha: Pradosh fast is observed on Trayodashi date. Pradosh fast is observed twice every month i.e. on Trayodashi tithi of Krishna and Shukla Paksha. According to the mythological story related to Som Pradosh fast, there used to be a Brahmin woman in a city. Her husband had passed away. Brahmini was alone after her husband's death. The Brahmin and her son used to survive by begging because they did not have any kind of employment. The Brahmin was in a very bad condition, but she always used to observe the fast of Pradosh. This is how his and his son's life was going on.
Once a Brahmin woman was returning home after begging for alms, when she saw a young man on the way who was injured. The Brahmini brought the injured young man to her home. This young man was a prince of Vidarbha state who was escaping from his enemies. His father was taken prisoner. The prince started living with the Brahmin and her son. Once a Gandharbha girl's eyes fell on the prince and she became fascinated by him.
The name of Gandharbha girl was Anshumati. He told his parents about Rakumar. Then one day, in a dream, Lord Shiva ordered Anshumati's parents to marry their daughter to a prince. After this, Anshumati's parents got her married to the prince. After this, the prince, along with King Gandharbha, won over his enemies.
After this the prince made Brahmini's son the prince of his kingdom. The good days of Brahmini have started. All this happened due to the influence of Pradosh fast being observed by the Brahmin. Just as Mahadev blessed the Brahmin and her son, similarly he blesses everyone.
