It was obvious from the get-go that The Ba***ds of Bollywood wouldn’t have been possible without Shah Rukh Khan’s support. Aryan Khan took opportunities one after the other to honour his father and the legacy he’s created through the show. From the award speech to the unmistakable focus on the actor, you can tell that it wouldn’t have been possible without SRK.
No matter the press release or interview, the young director didn’t shy away from any opportunity to praise his father. In a brand-new revelation, it unfolded that the writer almost chose not to take the risk and instead just sit on the sidelines had it not been for the My Name is Khan actor.

During a meet and greet on his 60th birthday on November 2, 2025, Shah Rukh Khan revealed just how scared his son and director of The Ba***ds of Bollywood, Aryan Khan, truly was. Although the younger Khan had already written the script for the series, he wasn’t sure if he would be the right fit.
“He was not sure if he could direct or not and whether they should hire some other director,” the actor shared.
Shah Rukh Khan wasn’t going to sit quietly and let his son give away something he worked so hard on creating. Although there would have been many directors who could take on the script and give it their own unique edge, the Netflix hit needed Aryan Khan’s perspective more than anything.
The Best Director Is The Scriptwriter

Shah Rukh Khan elaborated that he didn’t care how bad The Ba***ds of Bollywood could turn out. It was Aryan Khan’s first try and only trial and error would teach him how to navigate through the Bollywood industry. Even if it failed, he could always pick himself back up and find anew.
“But I feel that those who write and then direct themselves become better directors in a sense. So, I told him to follow his heart and direct it. Dekhenge kya hoga, kitna bura kar lega (We’ll see what happens. How bad can you do)...When you give this kind of freedom to creative people, they do a better job than telling them what to do,” the King actor said.
What Aryan Khan could do as the director of the show, no other person could. His vision was eccentric in the best way possible. Moreover, most of the metacommentary and humour wouldn’t have worked had he not been the one behind the camera.
