New Delhi: Following India’s historic ICC Women’s World Cup victory the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) announced a reward of ₹51 crore for the players support staff and selectors. However the interesting aspect is that this bonus will go to the old selection committee not the new one that recently took over. Neetu David-led committee to receive a share Although the members of the selection committee headed by Neetu David were not seen on the ground during the World Cup a senior BCCI official confirmed to Cricbuzz on Monday (November 3) that this committee will receive a share of the prize money. However the exact details of the distribution of the prize money have not yet been made public. Besides David the committee included Renu Margrate Aarti Vaidya Kalpana Venkatachar and Shyama Dey Shaw. This committee had announced the World Cup squad on September 4. New selection committee formed after the September 28 Neetu Davids committee has now been replaced by a new selection committee headed by Amita Sharma. This committee was appointed at the BCCIs Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28. The new committee includes Sulakshana Naik Jaya Sharma and Shravanthi Naidu while Shyama Dey Shaw has been retained. The new committee largely maintained a distance during the World Cup as they were instructed to focus on domestic cricket activities. Under-19 and senior women’s cricket matches were running concurrently so the selectors were deployed to various centers. However some members were present at the semi-final and final matches played at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The old committee members were not invited to the final match. Team management chose the replacement for the injured player Neither committee was involved in the decision-making process when Pratika Rawal was injured before the semi-final. In this situation the team management made the decision themselves and included Shafali Verma — as she was the only experienced opener available. BCCI applauds Jay Shah’s contribution The BCCI in its official statement said that the ₹51 crore reward is being given in recognition of the players’ “outstanding success dedication and contribution to bringing glory to the nation.” The board also praised the contributions of Jay Shah (former secretary and current ICC chairman). During his tenure the BCCI took several historic steps including equal pay for men and women players (Pay Parity) the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and strengthening the domestic structure which significantly improved the state of women’s cricket in India.
