In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood the destiny of a star changes with every project they sign and every release that happens on a Friday. While some become an overnight star with a big banner film others fade away quietly but some decision changes the course of cinema. One such similar situation happened when Bebo aka Kareena Kapoor who has been winning hearts for almost two decades almost made her debut in a completely different way. Known for her over-the-top performance like Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham Geet from Jab We Met and many more she could have started her journey with one of the most iconic romantic films of the 90s. Yes this film was none other than Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khans starrer Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Before Aishwarya Rai who played the role of lead Nandini in the film the part was initially offered to Kareena Kapoor. But destiny as always had other plans. The Film Kareena Rejected Before Her Debut Back in 1999 Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam hit the screens starring Salman Khan Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgn. The film became a cult classic remembered for its soulful music grand sets and timeless love story. It earned Rs 510 million and became the highest-grossing film of the year. However not many know that the character of Nandini that was played by Aishwarya Rai and made her a national sensation was first offered to Kareena Kapoor. Bhansali reportedly wanted to launch her with this film but she wasn’t keen on taking up the project at that time and politely declined the offer. Kareena Kapoors Bollywood Debut Kareena eventually made her debut in the year 2000 with Refugee opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Interestingly she had even shot a few scenes for Hrithik Roshan’s Kaho Na Pyaar Hai but due to creative differences she left midway. On the other hand her debut film Refugee did not work wonders at the box office but it marked the beginning of a career that would later redefine stardom for actresses in India. From Missed Opportunities to Success Over the years Kareena Kapoor Khan has proven that every “missed opportunity” can become a stepping stone to success. From over the top roles to intense and dark ones she has done it all showcasing her versatility and charm. Today even after 25 years she remains one of the most beloved and bankable stars in Indian cinema.
