New Delhi: Indian cricket legend and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been ruled out of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season. He sustained a knee injury during a practice session in Chennai after which he underwent a minor surgery. Ashwin himself shared the news on social media. The league is scheduled to begin on December 14 and he was set to play for Sydney Thunder for the first time. Injury sustained during practice in Chennai Ashwin was preparing for the Big Bash League in Chennai when he suffered a knee injury. This injury required him to undergo a medical procedure and as a result he has been ruled out of the entire tournament. Dream of playing for the first time shattered This season was going to be special for Ashwin as he was set to make his Big Bash League debut. He expressed his excitement about playing for the Sydney Thunder team on social media writing “I was really excited to be a part of this group and play in front of you all.” Emotional message to fans Ashwin shared an emotional post for the Australian fans and team members. He wrote “Now it’s just about rehab recovery and preparing to come back stronger. From my first interaction with the club I have felt nothing but warmth. Thank you to Trent the staff the players and everyone who made me feel at home.” He also said that he will watch all the team’s matches and support both the men’s and women’s teams. Hopes to return at the end of the season In his message Ashwin indicated that if his recovery goes well and doctors permit he might visit the team at the end of the season. He said “If rehab and travel are possible and doctors give the go-ahead I will definitely come to meet the team at the end of the season.
