Cricket League Scam: A big scam has come to light in the ongoing Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL) in Kashmir. The organizers of this league have fled without paying the players, umpires and hotel bills, due to which many international cricketers including West Indies legend Chris Gayle and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan are stranded in a hotel in Srinagar.
The league was organized by a youth society of Mohali. It was promoted with great enthusiasm and billboards of international players like Chris Gayle, Shakib Al Hasan, Jesse Ryder, Martin Guptill, Thisara Perera were put up across the city. The league was scheduled to end on 8 November.
The league was suddenly stopped on Saturday due to the players not receiving their money. The organizers of the league absconded after the players protested. The hotel management stopped the players due to non-payment. Many players including Gayle and Shakib are stuck in this situation.
This matter came to light when Melissa Juniper of England, who was umpiring in the competition, told that she and other staff have not received any payment. He said, “We have not received any payment.” On receiving information about the matter, Srinagar Police intervened. However, action against the organizers has not been confirmed yet. It is being told that some stranded players have been rescued with the help of police.
