The upcoming Bihar Assembly elections in 2025 will see a fierce competition for the Gopalpur seat in Bhagalpur district, featuring two candidates from the 'Mandal' community. Traditionally, this seat has been a stronghold for the Janata Dal (United) or JDU. However, the decisive influence of the Yadav voters cannot be overlooked. This election cycle, JDU has replaced the incumbent MLA, Gopal Mandal, with Shailesh Kumar, also known as Bulo Mandal, as their candidate. In response to being denied a ticket, Gopal Mandal has decided to contest as an independent candidate.

Historically, the Gopalpur assembly seat has been under JDU's control in the last four elections held in 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. In the 2020 elections, JDU's Gopal Mandal secured a significant victory over RJD's Shailesh Kumar. This time, however, the contest is expected to be multifaceted, with candidates from NDA, the Grand Alliance, the Jan Suraj Party, and independent candidates all vying for attention.
