Lives of four passengers were lost and multiple injured in a collision between a local train and a stationary goods train near Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh Tuesday. The Indian Railways declared Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for kin of deceased, Rs 5 lakh to those grievously injured, and Rs 1 lakh to those with minor injuries. A preliminary assessment suggests the passenger train jumped a red signal causing the accident.

A detailed inquiry into the incident will be conducted at the level of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) to ascertain the exact cause and recommend necessary corrective actions, an official statement said.
