Tejashwi Yadav's Promises for Bihar's Farmers and Women

Tejashwi Yadav, a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the chief ministerial candidate for the Grand Alliance, made several commitments on Tuesday aimed at supporting farmers, women, and government employees in Bihar. Speaking to the media, Yadav stated that if the Grand Alliance forms the government in Bihar, farmers would receive an additional ₹300 per quintal for paddy and ₹400 per quintal for wheat, on top of the existing minimum support price (MSP). He also promised free electricity for irrigation purposes. Yadav emphasized, "We will provide ₹300 for paddy and ₹400 for wheat in addition to the MSP, along with free electricity for irrigation."

Women Empowerment Initiatives

Under the alliance's welfare schemes, Yadav reiterated his commitment to the 'Mai Behan Maan' scheme. Women enrolled in this program will receive ₹30,000 in their accounts on January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti, symbolizing a new year. During a press conference in Patna, Yadav remarked, "Many women are excited about the Mai Behan Maan scheme we announced. They expressed that it would provide them with financial relief during these inflationary times. We want to assure that our government will prioritize the demands of our mothers and sisters. Makar Sankranti is approaching, marking a new year for the people. On January 14, we will form the government and deposit ₹30,000 into women's accounts under the Mai Behan Maan scheme for the entire year."

Commitment to Government Employees

Yadav also highlighted the Grand Alliance's dedication to government employees, stating that transfers for police officers, teachers, and healthcare workers would be limited to a radius of 70 kilometers from their home cadre. He noted, "Our manifesto specifies that government employees, whether they are police officers, healthcare workers, or teachers, will only be transferred and posted within a 70-kilometer radius of their home cadre." In early October, the central cabinet approved the MSP for rabi crops for the marketing season 2026-27, ensuring producers receive a profitable price for their produce. According to an official statement, the current MSP for wheat is ₹2,585 per quintal, while the MSP for barley, gram, lentils, and kusum has been set at ₹2,150, ₹5,875, ₹7,000, and ₹6,540 per quintal, respectively. The increase in MSP for mandatory rabi crops for the marketing season 2026-27 aligns with the announcement made in the central budget of 2018-19, which stipulated that MSP should be set at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average production cost.
