Encounter in Churachandpur District
In the Churachandpur district of Manipur, a confrontation occurred on Tuesday morning between security forces and members of the United Kukis National Army (UKNA), a banned militant group not part of any ceasefire agreement. Reports indicate that at least four militants were killed during this encounter.
According to police sources, the clash took place in Khanpi village, located in the Henglep sub-division of Churachandpur district. The security forces initiated an operation around 5:30 AM after receiving intelligence about the presence of armed militants.
During the gunfire, four militants from the UKNA were confirmed dead. This group is not a signatory to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, which was established between the central government, Manipur state authorities, and several Kukis-Zomi militant factions.
Following the encounter, security forces have cordoned off the area to prevent any further militant presence. Officials have reported that additional troops have been deployed, and while the situation remains tense, it is under control.
