Barclays has clarified the rules for a £200 payment going out to certain customers. The bank is currently offering a range of payments if you switch to them.
You can get £200 if you switch to a Barclays Bank Account or £400 if you move over to a Premier Current Account, as well as up to £500 if you move over your ISA savings to the bank. There are several other conditions to meet to get the payments.
A person interested in the offer asked Barclays over social media on November 2: "Can I get a current account switching bonus if I've had a Barclays account in the past (but no open account on 7 October)? Commentary isn't fully clear on this."
The rules on the Barclays website for both switch offers states that it is "only available to new customers" and that you need to open your new account in the Barclays app. Responding to the customer, Barclays explained a key date that applies for the offer.
The bank said: "Customers are not eligible for the switching bonus if they've had any open Barclays current accounts on or before the offer start date, of 7 October 2025." Barclays explained some of the other restrictions for the offer.
The group said: "You mustn't have ever received a switch offer reward for switching to any Barclays current account as well. Eligibility and terms and conditions do also apply to this offer."
What do you need to do to get the Barclays switch offer?To get either current account switch offer payment, you need to apply for the account in the app. If you go for the Barclays Bank Account, you also need to sign up for Blue Rewards, which costs £5 a month.
You will need to complete a full switch in the app, including at least two direct debits. You then need to pay in at least £2,000 into your new account. These two steps have to be completed within 30 days of requesting the switch.
The £200 or £400 payment will land in your new account within 28 days of you meeting all the eligibility criteria. You will get a text once you have fulfilled all the necessary steps.
The payment will appear on your statement as 'Switch Reward'. You can only get one switch offer per person - the account has to be opened in a sole name.
