Important historical events of 4th November: Mughal emperor Aurangzeb was born in 1618. He was the son of Shahjahan and brother of Jahanara Begum. His full name was Mohiuddin Muhammad Aurangzeb Alamgir. In 1658 he ousted his father from power and assumed the throne and ruled for about 50 years.

Aurangzeb was known for his religious fanaticism and harsh rule. He expanded the Mughal Empire, but by the end of his rule the stability of the empire began to decline. He died in 1707, which is considered to be the beginning of the decline of the Mughal Empire.
