Jannik Sinner surpasses Carlos Alcaraz, regains ATP No.1 ranking

New Delhi: The worlds top two tennis stars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz constantly exchange the No.1 ATP raking Sinner officially regained the No. 1 position in the ATP rankings on Monday after his Paris Masters triumph dethroning Alcaraz who had maintained the top spot for almost two months. However because of the rankings system and its points calculations Alcaraz will reclaim the No. 1 position next Monday. With only a narrow gap between them Sinner at 11500 points and Alcaraz at 11250 the year-end No. 1 ranking will depend on how the two perform at the upcoming ATP Finals in Turin. Rankings will shift again next Monday Although Sinner and Alcaraz are not competing this week the ATP Finals beginning on Sunday the rankings will shift again next Monday because the points they earned at last years Finals will be removed from their totals on that day. Next week Sinner is going to lose the 1500 points he earned from last years final victory while Alcaraz will give up 200 points he earned from his failure to make it out of the group stage. As a result next Monday will see Alcaraz move to 11050 points while Sinners ranking will drop to 10000. Meanwhile no one is close to entering the top two anytime soon with Novak Djokovic (4580) Taylor Fritz (4735) and Alexander Zverev (5560 points) all are far behind. Sinner and Alcaraz ruke all four Grand Slam title Sinner and Alcaraz have built their massive points totals by capturing all four Grand Slam titles this season along with other major tournament wins. Sinner claimed the Australian Open title to start the year. Alcaraz then edged him in a thrilling French Open final. Sinner responded by defeating Alcaraz in the Wimbledon championship match. Finally Alcaraz once again came out on top against Sinner to secure the U.S. Open crown. Adding more confusion Alcaraz will enter the ATP Finals as the top seed despite not holding the No. 1 ranking when the tournament begins. Due to the ATP Finals using a separate points system the Race to Turin which counts only the points earned during the current calendar year.
