Train Accidents In India 2025: A major train accident occurred on Tuesday near Bilaspur railway station in Chhattisgarh. Here there was a massive collision between a passenger train and a goods train. So far, 4 people have been confirmed dead in this tragic accident, while many passengers are said to be injured. Relief and rescue work is going on rapidly. The accident occurred around 4 pm between Gatora and Bilaspur when MEMU local train (number 68733) going from Gevra Road to Bilaspur collided with a goods train coming from the opposite direction.

Rail services halted, many trains canceled and diverted

After the accident, rail traffic on Bilaspur route has been completely disrupted. Railway officials said that many express and passenger trains have been canceled or diverted. Railway administration, NDRF and local police are engaged in relief work on the spot. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. The Railway Minister has ordered an investigation into the accident.

Three children killed in school van-train collision in Tamil Nadu

Another major accident of this year occurred on 8 July 2025 in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, where a school van collided with a passenger train. In this tragic incident, three children died, while four people were seriously injured. The accident occurred at a manual level crossing, where the train dragged the van.

Many railway accidents also happened in Mumbai, Bihar and Jharkhand.

In June 2025, 5 people died and 9 were injured when two local trains suddenly collided near Mumbra station in Mumbai. In the same month, on June 21, Awadh Assam Express collided with a maintenance trolley near Semapur station in Bihar, in which a railway worker died. On April 1, a head-on collision between two goods trains in Jharkhand led to a fire in Sahibganj, Jharkhand, in which three people including two loco pilots died.

Accidents in Delhi and Odisha shocked the country

On 15 February, 20 people died in a stampede at New Delhi railway station. This accident occurred when people started running to board a Prayagraj-bound train due to a wrong announcement. Also on March 30, 11 bogies of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Superfast Express derailed in Odisha’s Cuttack district, killing several passengers and injuring dozens. Earlier in the year, on January 22, 12 passengers of the Pushpak Express in Jalgaon died when a false alarm caused the passengers to step off the track and hit a vehicle coming from the front.
