Before the auction of Women's Premier League (WPL 2026), the list of players retained by all the 5 franchises has been revealed. This time all the teams have to retain maximum 5 players. All the remaining players will enter the auction. This time the Right to Match card will also be used in the auction. At the same time, the most shocking decision for retention has been taken by UP Warriors, who have retained only 1 player and released the rest of the team.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, UP Warriors have decided to retain only Shweta Sehrawat. Which means that Deepti Sharma, who was the player of the series of World Cup 2025, has been released. At the same time, Australia's veteran player Alyssa Healy has also not been retained. In such a situation, these star players are going to be seen in the auction. Star players like Australia's Meg Lanning and New Zealand's all-rounder Amelia Kerr have also been released by their teams.
On the other hand, Indian stars Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shefali Verma have been retained by their respective teams. Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians have retained maximum 5-5 players in the team. Whereas, defending Royal Challengers Bangalore has retained 4 players. Gujarat Giants have retained only 2 players and UP Warriors have retained only 1 player.
Each franchise has been given a purse of Rs 15 crore for the auction to be held in Delhi. Whichever franchise has retained five players, Rs 9.25 crore will be deducted from its purse of Rs 15 crore. Whereas for four this deduction is Rs 8.75 crore, for three it is Rs 7.75 crore, for two it is Rs 6 crore and for one it is Rs 3.5 crore. Among the retained players, the first player will get Rs 3.5 crore, the second player will get Rs 2.5 crore, the third player will get Rs 1.75 crore, the fourth player will get Rs 1 crore and the fifth player will get Rs 50 lakh.
