WPL 2026 Retentions: Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues retained, Deepti Sharma and Alyssa Healy released

India’s World Cup-winning stars Harmanpreet Kaur Smriti Mandhana Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma are some of the top players kept by WPL teams ahead of the 2026 mega auction.
Australia’s Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning along with New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr will go back into the auction after being released by their teams. Another notable release is Deepti Sharma the World Cup Player of the Tournament who captained Warriorz in Healy’s absence in 2025.
ESPNcricinfo reports that two teams - defending champions Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals - have kept the maximum of five players allowed by the WPL. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have retained four players Gujarat Giants two and UP Warriorz one. While the exact amounts for each player are not confirmed the likely retentions are:

What do the WPL retention rules say?
According to WPL retention rules each team can keep up to three experienced Indian players up to two overseas players and up to two uncapped Indian players. If a team wants to retain five players at least one must be an uncapped Indian. For the first time teams can also use the right-to-match (RTM) option at the auction to buy back a player from their 2025 squad.
What are the price details for retentions?
Each franchise has a budget of Rs 15 crore for the auction which is expected to be held in Delhi on November 27. The WPL has set guideline prices for retained players: Rs 3.5 crore for Player 1 Rs 2.5 crore for Player 2 Rs 1.75 crore for Player 3 Rs 1 crore for Player 4 and Rs 50 lakh for Player 5. If a team keeps five players Rs 9.25 crore will be deducted from their Rs 15 crore budget; for four players Rs 8.75 crore; for three Rs 7.75 crore; for two Rs 6 crore; and for one player Rs 3.5 crore.
