Margashirsha Month 2025 starts: Margashirsha month is also called the month of Agrahayana and Agahan month. It is the ninth month of the Hindu calendar, taking its name from the 'Mrigashira' constellation due to the position of the Moon on the full moon day. Margashirsha month is considered the most sacred month in religious scriptures. It is believed that this month is considered to be the beginning of Satyayuga. Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna and Goddess Lakshmi are worshiped in the month of Margashirsha. This month is called “Margashirsha” because Lord Krishna himself has described it as the best among the months. For this reason this month is considered especially dedicated to the worship of Lord Krishna.
Margashirsha month starts from the next day of Kartik Purnima. According to the Panchang, the month of Margashirsha will start from 6 November 2025 and will end on 4 December 2025.
Vishnusahastra Nama, Bhagwat Geeta and Gajendramoksha should be recited in Margashirsha month. Apart from this, worshiping Lord Krishna, Srihari and Goddess Lakshmi during Margashirsha month is considered auspicious. In this month, after taking bath, Pitru Tarpan and Pitru Puja should be done through a Brahmin.
In the month of Margashirsha, one should not eat tamasic food (meat and liquor) and should stay away from vices like anger, laziness, deceit and jealousy. Apart from this, one should not insult teachers, parents or elders and should not speak harsh words to anyone. Sweeping, mopping and cutting nails are also prohibited after sunset in the month of Margashirsha.
In the month of Margashirsha, one should not eat tamasic food (like non-vegetarian, onion, garlic) and one should also not consume cumin. Apart from this, it is also advised to avoid stale food and some vegetables like brinjal, radish etc. in the month of Aghan. Satvik food should be consumed during this month.
