Bribery Case in Samba District
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has apprehended a revenue officer in Samba district on charges of accepting bribes, seizing over ₹35 lakh in cash from his personal vehicle. This information was disclosed by an official on Tuesday.
According to the official, a complaint was lodged against Sunil Kumar, who serves as a Patwari in the Dadu Block, alleging that he demanded a bribe of ₹1 lakh for the improvement of revenue records or Girdawari.
After negotiations, Kumar agreed to settle for ₹80,000. The official stated that a covert verification was conducted, confirming the bribe solicitation by the Patwari, leading to the registration of a case under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the initiation of an investigation.
The ACB team set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed while he was receiving the bribe from the complainant. The officer was arrested on the spot, and the bribe amount was confiscated, along with more than ₹35 lakh in cash found during a search of his vehicle.
