JEE Mains 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has begun the registration process for the Joint Entrance Test (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1. This year, the NTA has made some changes to the registration process, allowing candidates applying for the JEE Main to choose their exam city for the first time. The NTA has given candidates applying for the JEE Main 2026 four options for selecting their exam city. This means candidates will be able to appear for the JEE Main exam in their preferred city.
Let's explore what this option to choose an exam city in the JEE Main is. Why has this change been made? What does it mean?
Recommendations Implemented
The NTA has implemented the recommendations of the Dr. K. Radhakrishnan Committee in the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 registration process. The committee was formed to improve the JEE exam system. The committee submitted its recommendations to the government last year. This means that JEE Main 2026 Session 1 is the first exam in which the recommendations of the Dr. K. Radhakrishnan Committee have been implemented.
How to Choose 4 Exam Cities
In JEE Main 2026 Session 1, NTA plans to allocate candidates to their preferred exam cities. To this end, candidates are being given the option to select 4 exam cities during registration. In fact, during registration, candidates can select a maximum of 4 exam cities. For example, as soon as candidates enter their current and permanent addresses during registration, a list of exam cities near their address will appear. Candidates can select 4 exam cities from this list.
The NTA will then allocate an exam center in the exam city closest to the candidate's home in priority. The NTA has already made preparations for this. However, if for some reason, one of the four selected exam cities cannot be allocated, another exam city closer to home will be allocated. To this end, the NTA has also increased the number of exam cities this time.
Benefit for Candidates
This initiative of allocating JEE Main 2026 Session 1 candidates to their preferred cities is beneficial for candidates in several ways. This will save travel time and expenses. This will also give candidates ample time to prepare for other exams or board exams.
