The Indian Railways connects remote villages to major cities bringing the country together. India has thousands of railway stations.  Some railway stations even stand out. Meanwhile have you ever wondered which is the smallest railway station in the country? Read the detailed story to know more. Banspani Railway Station is a small railway station that caters to the small town of Banspani and surrounding areas in Keonjhar Odisha. It is to be noted that Banspani Railway Station is regarded as the smallest railway station in India having just one reportedly 140-meter-long platform. The small railway station operates only a few trains mainly to meet the needs of local passengers but it is important for freight operations especially to move minerals like iron ore that are plentiful in the surrounding area. Media Reports suggest that the Banspani railway station is the second biggest iron ore loading station of the Indian Railways after the Jaroli railway station located in Odisha. The station designated by the station code BSPX is focused primarily on local travelers and not on long-distance travel. According to Indian Railways only four passenger trains run through the Banspani Railway Station- the Barbil- Puri-Barbil Indian class Intercity Express Brahmapur-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express Puri-Anand Vihar Terminal Weekly Express and Visakhapattnam-Tatanagar-Visakhapattnam Weekly Late Express. This is because the platform at Banspani Railway Station is incapable of accommodating long express trains.
