High Court Decision on Asaram's Bail

The Gujarat High Court has granted a six-month interim bail to Asaram, who was convicted in a 2013 rape case. The court noted that the self-styled saint suffers from heart-related ailments and, at the age of 86, has the legal right to receive medical treatment. The court pointed out that the Jodhpur High Court had previously provided similar relief, indicating that Gujarat cannot take a different stance in this matter.

Court Comments on Appeal Duration Potential for Further Bail Applications

The court also mentioned that if the appeal hearing does not progress within the next six months, Asaram would have the option to file another bail application. The bench clarified that if the Rajasthan government challenges the bail order from the Jodhpur High Court, the Gujarat government would also be entitled to file a petition against it. The state's lawyer informed the court that if medical facilities in Jodhpur jail are inadequate, Asaram could be transferred to Sabarmati jail, where better treatment arrangements could be made.

Survivor's Side Raises Concerns Objections to Medical Claims

The lawyer representing the survivor raised strong objections to the claims of medical incapacity. The lawyer argued that despite these alleged conditions, Asaram has frequently been seen traveling to Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Indore, and other locations. They stated that he has never undergone any long-term treatment in a hospital. Instead, he had previously traveled from Rishikesh to Maharashtra. Currently, he is receiving Ayurvedic treatment in Jodhpur and has no significant complaints.
